Costa Rica Travel Tips

Hey y’all! So as you all know, this year I traveled to the beautiful country of Costa Rica! It was wonderful and it made me extremely excited to get back to traveling! Unfortunately with the coronavirus issue we aren’t able to do lots of travel. BUT this is a great time to plan your next trip you wanna take! And if that next trip is Costa Rica then here are some of my tips for you. 🌞

Essentials to bring:

  • sunscreen

  • poncho or raincoat

  • peppermint essential oil or bug spray

  • dry fit clothes

  • A sweatshirt or long sleeve

  • Locks for lockers in hostels

  • bathing suit and sunglasses

* Costa Rica’s weather is different all over. When I was in La Fortuna we experienced rain, when we were in Monte Verde we experienced crazy wind, and when we were in Santa Teresa we experienced beautiful hot sunny weather. Just do your research and pack accordingly.
* Costa Rica isn’t as cheap as I thought it was. It’s not bad at all but wasn’t as cheap as I was expecting. I was there for 2 weeks and my budget was 1,000 and I only spent 800. However we did stay in hostels and we traveled mostly by bus, which saved us lots of money. Also do your research and check out what cities are more expensive. We made some friends in Costa Rica that traveled to Tamarindo and said it was great but not worth the money. Dana and I went to Santa Teresa and it was little more expensive then the first two cities we were in but DEFINITELY worth it. Just do some research and figure out what places fit your budget. There is beauty in every place. and
* I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TRAVELING BY BUS!
We had a couple hiccups with bus travel because of the language barrier but other than that it was a great experience.

HOSTELS I WOULD RECOMMEND:
- Arenal Backpackers Resort

-Monte Verde Hostel Resort

-El Bosque Hostel

- Teva Hotel and Hostel

- Rockin J’s

*If you have a sensitive stomach, maybe consider bringing some Pepto-Bismo or Imodium. I saw a few travelers get affected by certain drinking water.

* Another way to save money is when you are looking for places to eat, stick to the Sodas. Don’t go to restaurants. Soda’s are better because you will get a traditional Costa Rican meal and it will cost half the money of a restaurant. If you are in La Fortuna GO TO SODAS LAS HERMAGAS. It was by far my FAVORITE MEAL the whole trip. Also if your looking for a fun night in Monte Verde, go to Soda Bonanza for dinner and then to Amigos Bar for pool, drinks, and dancing.
